£10k Side Hustle Challenge: Month 11 Update

Welcome to the penultimate 10k side hustle challenge update. Spoiler alert – it’s an important one. I actually can’t believe how fast this year has gone!

November was a great month for side hustle payments hitting my account. I started back full time at my intense winter job this month so it was nice to have a big chunk of income hit my account from previous work I’d done. I did have time to do a little side hustles in the month but nothing major so my month 12 update will reflect this.

Before I breakdown all incoming payments in November, let’s me explain exactly what my 10k side hustle challenge is…

The Rules

This year I will have two main sources of income, my summer job and my winter job. And as this is a side hustle challenge I won’t be counting any earnings from these two sources towards my total. But everything else is up for grabs! Including any freelance income outside of these two jobs and my passive income streams like bank interest.

I went back and forth but have decided to count both cash income and voucher income towards the total. I only counted cash in my £5k hustle challenge as the goal was to match my gap year spending pot. But the goal for this challenge is to push myself and test the earning capacity of various side hustles. So I will be counting both cash and vouchers when I have received them.

The minute they hit my bank account/inbox they will be counted towards my total and included in my side hustle challenge update posts. Before then they exist in limbo and my daily hustle tracker.

The Progress

I’ve been publishing updates every month since the beginning of this side hustle challenge. You can read them here…

January – £264.22

February – £750.22

March – £937.54

April – £1,769.47

50% Point Update

May – £2,071.05

June – £1,259.87

July – £524.30

August – £213.18

September – £407.44

October – £1455.43

Ok, so now we’re clear on what the challenge is and the rules, let’s get into where the money came from in month 11…

Cashback = £0.38

I love using my Chase card when spending money abroad as it’s fee-free and I get 1% back on most purchases! As my go to card, I have it set as my default card on ApplePay and accidentally used it in the UK once this month. I won’t get my normal Avios (I try to channel all UK spending through my various reward credit cards) but I did get 38p back in cashback. So not a complete fail!

Sharing Data = £0.90

Still in mourning about the change Amazon Shopper Panel made to their reward system but I did get 90p added to my Amazon balance in November from a survey I answered back in October.

Surveys = £23.32

I finally got a cash out from the survey site Viewsbank after answering short surveys via email for almost a year! It automatically cashes out monthly if you’re balance is over £12 so I got a nice £14.82 added to my PayPal balance. I also cashed out once from Prolific (my favourite survey site) which was £8.50.

Website Ads = £60.79

FINALLY!!! This payment has been almost 3 years in the making!!! I got super close to an ad cash out about 6 months after first joining google ads but then made the silly decision to change my domain name not realising it would put my site back to zero. It took another 18 months to get accepted again and then 11 months to earn that final little bit extra and cash out. Whew what a ride! You best believe I did a little squeal when I saw the payment hit my account this month!

Mystery Shopping = £75

I completed three of my favourite mystery shops through iShopForIpsos this month, getting paid £25 for each. I love these and am going to be super sad when I’m no longer eligible next year.

Interest = £91.33

Got paid a nice chunk of passive interest this month! This is probably my favourite income stream as it requires zero effect on my part and over time I’m hoping this chunk will keep getting bigger and bigger.

Referrals = £265.53

A bunch of referral payments cleared this month. Referral schemes is one of the main ways I make money from this site and I am grateful to each and every person who uses one of my links. It helps me keep living this crazy lifestyle I find myself in!

Freelance = £600

Epic freelancing month! Think this may be my highest month to date. I mostly work a month in hand meaning the payments that hit my account this month were from VA work completed back in October.

Month 11 Total = £1117.25

Challenge Total = £10,769.93/£10,000

Officially across the finish line!! Woohoo!!

Actually cannot believe I’ve completed this challenge, let alone smashed it in only 11 months AND still have side hustle payments pending. Crazy! I will still be posting a month 12 side hustle challenge update to round out the challenge updates and then will share an entire breakdown in all it’s glory. So stay tuned!

Are you doing a money challenge in 2024? I’d love to hear all about it!
