How Much I Spend – Student Money Diaries #2

Student money diaries #2 - How much I spend in a week

Back with another instalment in the student money series, where I share how much I spend as an ordinary student living in a UK city which has an average cost of living! Highlights of this week were a cocktail night and a day trip to Windermere!

MONDAY

7pm Meet some friends in the park for an impromptu leaving party – it’s getting close to the end of term so friends are slowly leaving for summer.

10.30pm Really really want pizza! This always happens when I drink!

11pm Favourite pizza place is closed 🙁 Decide to be good and eat leftover curry.

TOTAL = £13.97

WEDNESDAY

Vaccination day!! I’m finally getting my first dose of the covid vaccine.

8am Wake up early, get some work done before heading out for my vaccine.

11am First dose complete! Absolutely starving so end up nipping into Starbucks for breakfast. I never go out for breakfast but I don’t have much food in and I’ve been wanting to try their vegan breakfast sandwich for ages. I get the sandwich and a soya hot chocolate. £8.30

12pm Catch a bus from town to uni. £2.60

12.20pm I manage to snag a sofa in the library to get some work done before a meeting.

4pm Meeting over! I passed my trial tour and am now officially a student ambassador for my uni 🙂

7pm Chilling in bed watching Netflix when a friend messages me asking if I want to go for a few drinks. I decide to make the adult decision and have an early night!

7.30pm FOMO kicked in – decide to go out after all

8.30pm Go to a cute cocktail bar with some friends. So glad I decided to go out, we have an absolutely amazing night!! £16 (for three drinks)

11.30pm We leave the bar and decide to go to maccies on the way home! I get large fries. £1.19

12pm Get home, take my makeup off and get straight into bed.

FRIDAY

9am Wake up, get ready and head out to do a food shop at Aldi

10am Food shop complete! I’m leaving my current accommodation in a little over a week so didn’t want to get too much food in case it goes to waste. End it getting some essentials to last until I leave. £6.68

10.15am Back home, food away, make myself brunch and carry on researching for my dissertation.

2.45pm Leave for work

12am Get home from work, grab some food and head straight to bed!

SUNDAY

9.30am Get up and get ready for my day trip to Windermere!

10.30am Meet up with my friends and walk to the train station.

12.30pm We’ve made it!!! Start walking from the train station down to the lake.

1pm The lake is gorgeous!! We try and find a water activity to do… toss up between canoe’s and hiring a boat.

Everything is booked 🙁

We decide to grab some food and booze from Tesco, find a nice spot and enjoy the sun and views! £6.08 for a meal deal and bottle of wine!

Day trip to Windermere - Student money diary
The view from our spot!

5pm Decide we should go and find a table for tea… there’s seven of us and we haven’t booked anywhere so this could take a while 🙂

6pm Find a lovely outside table at a Thai restaurant.

8pm Finished our meal, it was meh. We’ve decided that next time we need to book somewhere to avoid disappointment. I had a starter, side of rice and a soft drink. This came to £16.84!!

We have another hour until our train back so find a nice pub near the station to have a drink. I still have half a bottle of wine from lunch so I cheekily drink it out of my bag instead of buying another drink.

11.30pm Arrive home absolutely shattered from a great day out… head straight to bed!

TOTAL = £22.92

WEEKLY TOTAL = £74.66

This is more than I usually spend each week but it’s cheap considering what I did this week 🙂
