Full Review of the Cheapest Capsule Hostel in NYC
KAMA Central Park is the cheapest capsule hostel in NYC and here’s my full review!

The Location
This hostel is in the perfect location for exploring NYC! It’s peaceful but also super close to all the tourist attractions via the subway.
KAMA Central Park is located on West 106th Street, across the street from Central Park. It’s only 3 blocks away from the 103rd Street subway station which connects you to the rest of Manhattan and the other boroughs.
It’s location next to the park is awesome for morning walks and there are rental bikes available just outside the front door.

The Price
I originally found this hostel when I was searching for accommodation on Booking.com and this came up as the cheapest option. For a 2 night stay in June, I paid $135 for a capsule in a 4-bed female only doom.
Coming in at $67.50 per night which might seem very expensive for a hostel BUT this is New York City we are talking about. The city where according to CoStar’s data, a night in a hotel will set you back $417 on average. INSANE!
And it’s not just a basic dorm bed you’re getting. This is a capsule hotel which are typically more expensive anyway. Which is why KAMA Central Park is more expensive per night than say the HI hostel which is typically less than $50 per night.
The Capsules
Now this is my secret to actually enjoying staying in hostels beyond the social perks – only booking capsule style beds! And the capsules at KAMA were awesome.
Very spacious with your own plugs and lights inside and the beds were comfy too. Plus the shutter locks from the inside so it feels even more private. And you control the temperature inside so you won’t get too hot or cold. Plus there’s a little mirror inside for when you’re getting ready.

The capsules do look a little like a space ship but they were very comfortable, spacious and private. What more could you ask for when you’re on a budget in one of the most expensive cities in the world!
The Facilities
Whilst basic, the facilities at KAMA Central Park were nice and my two nights there were very comfortable. My biggest disappointment was the free breakfast which usually I’d be all over but in this case I opted for a Dunkin instead.

Towels were included which was a nice surprise as usually you need your own or have to pay extra to rent one when staying in a hostel. They have a nice communal space downstairs where you can hang out and get a drink. Plus they will store your luggage before and after check-in which is great if like me your onwards transport is late into the evening.
The dorm that I booked had an included ensuite which was nice, clean and had all the amenities you’d expect from the cheapest capsule hostel in NYC. Just the essentials, eg toilet paper and soap. Oh they did have a hairdryer which is a little bit of luxury!

Overall Verdict
Overall my 2-night stay at KAMA Central Park was nice and just what I was expecting from the cheapest capsule hostel in NYC. The capsules were very spacious and had all the amenities one would expect. I enjoyed my stay here, the location was perfect for exploring and I would 100% stay here again in the future.
Have you ever stayed at a capsule hotel? What did you think?
