The 8 Best Bars in Antigua, Guatemala To Visit

    February 12, 2026 /

Antigua, Guatemala will always be up there with one of the best cities I’ve ever been too! It has so much going for it, including being one of the best places to do a Spanish Immersion program but also a great place to find cute bars and speakeasys. I only spent two weeks in this incredible city in Central America but used my time very wisely and tried out a bunch of the best bars and cool coffee shops around the city.  Full of cute cobblestone streets, Antigua is a very picturesque city that I could easily see myself basing myself in for an extended period of time. The city…

The Frugal Explorer’s Guide To Antigua, Guatemala

    July 14, 2025 /

Last fall, I spent 2 weeks on a Spanish Immersion program in Antigua, Guatemala. This looked like living with a local host family and attending daily Spanish classes! I wished I booked longer as I had the best experience in Antigua and have been planning a return trip since I left. I spent my two weeks in Antigua hopping around coffee shops, immersing myself in the culture and I just so happened to be visiting during Independence Weekend which was an amazing thing to get to see. Here’s everything you need to know before you visit Antigua, whether just for a quick visit or on a Spanish Immersion program like…

Maximo Nivel Review: Spanish Immersion Program in Antigua

    February 20, 2025 /

Last September, I spent two weeks on a Spanish Immersion program in Antigua, Guatemala and had an incredible time! Keep reading for my Maximo Nivel review. I chose to do this through Maximo Nivel after seeing rave reviews about the school online and finding it to be the most affordable. My experience was amazing and i wouldn’t hesitate to go back. Rather I am trying to go back at some point this year. Guatemala is known as the cheapest place to learn Spanish and in my experience this is not wrong! I paid $490 for a 2 week Spanish Immersion Program. This included housing, breakfast & dinner every day and…

Is Antigua Really The Cheapest Place To Learn Spanish?

    February 20, 2025 /

I spent two weeks attempting to learn Spanish in Antigua Guatemala on a Spanish immersion program. But how much did it actually cost and is it really the cheapest place to learn Spanish? I picked Antigua, Guatemala because it was so cheap but when all added up, the grand total was more than I thought it was going to be. Let’s break it down… The Immersion Program = $490/£374.30 I knew I wanted to do a Spanish Immersion program somewhere in the world so I googled “cheapest place to learn Spanish” and Antigua came up, so into a research hole I went! In the end I chose a school called…

46 Days of Full Time Travel: Post Camp Trip Spending Diary!

    October 2, 2024 /

Michigan, Nashville, Florida, New York, Antigua, Tulum… woah best post camp trip ever!!! And last year I did a two week New England road trip followed by two weeks in Italy. I had a 30-day travel period off the back of my J1 visa for camp that I wanted to take full advantage of. Then with nothing in the calendar until the end of September, I decided to head down to Central America and finally explore a little bit. Plus it gave me chance to put my almost-2 year Duolingo streak to good use 😂 But how much did I spend on my post camp trip? Let’s break it down……
