10k Side Hustle Challenge: Month 10 Update

Another month over, time for another side hustle income challenge update! I ended my last update at 82% towards my goal, so did I complete the challenge in month 10? Keep reading to find out.

October was a limbo month for me – in between seasonal gigs. And I spent the majority of the month at home, so I had plenty of time to side hustle.

Before I breakdown all incoming payments in October, let me explain exactly what my 10k side hustle challenge is…

The Rules

This year I will have two main sources of income, my summer job and my winter job. And as this is a side hustle challenge I won’t be counting any earnings from these two sources towards my total. But everything else is up for grabs! Including any freelance income outside of these two jobs and my passive income streams like bank interest.

I went back and forth but have decided to count both cash income and voucher income towards the total. I only counted cash in my £5k hustle challenge as the goal was to match my gap year spending pot. But the goal for this challenge is to push myself and test the earning capacity of various side hustles. So I will only be counting both cash and vouchers when I have received them.

The minute they hit my bank account/inbox they will be counted towards my total. Before then they exist in limbo and my daily hustle tracker. If you fancy seeing how much I earned in the month of October, check this post out.

The Progress

I’ve been publishing updates every month since the beginning of this side hustle challenge. You can read them here…

January – £264.22

February – £750.22

March – £937.54

April – £1,769.47

50% Point Update

May – £2,071.05

June – £1,259.87

July – £524.30

August – £213.18

September – £407.44

Ok, so now we’re clear on what the challenge is and the rules, let’s get into my month 10 side hustle challenge update…

Sharing Data ~ £2

Got paid out my final automatic £2 from Amazon Shopper Panel. Going forward, they have changed the rewards system from an automatic payment to one you have to answer surveys for. It’s a shame because this was a great little boost each month to my Amazon balance but I’ll be keeping an eye out for the surveys that pop up.

Online Tasks ~ £5.50

I cashed out from OhMyDosh after completing a bingo offer in October. I got paid £15 to deposit £10 and work through the pot, so made a £5 profit plus cashed out the 50p that was sat in the account.

Cashback ~ £15

I cashed out £15 from TopCashback which was cashback from the travel insurance policy I took out for my post-camp trip.

Referrals ~ £21.66

I got paid out £21.66 from various referral programs during October. Referral offers are one of the three ways I currently make money from blogging.

Sharing free money offers are my absolute favourite way to make money because every wins. Check out this list of free money offers – worth around £300.

Mystery Shopping ~ £25

I completed three mystery shops in month 10 of my challenge but only one of the payments cleared in the month. The other two will get paid out next month. These were all through the site iShopforIpsos.

If you are aged 18-23 don’t miss out on these offers! They’re a great way to bag a few Christmas presents and make some money whilst doing it!

Surveys ~ £37.09

I cashed out £37.09 from Prolific during October, mostly from studies I completed in the month but I did have a couple of quid sat in the account from months prior. Surveys were one of my first online side hustles and I’ve kept them up here and there even though they now make up only a small percentage of my side hustle income.

Affiliates ~ £58.14

Another way I make money blogging is through affiliate programs. I had one program pay out in month 10 of my side hustle challenge.

Interest ~ £63.29

Monthly passive income from my HYSAs is my favourite income stream, zero effort! I have around 4 different HYSAs (High Yield Savings Accounts) all earning between 4-5% interest. I also got paid £12.75 my LISA bonus.

Freelance ~ £485.25

I kinda fell into doing freelance VA work back at the start of my gap year and have ran with it. I picked up two new freelance clients last month who I’ll start seeing income from next month. But in month 10 of the challenge, I got paid from my two ongoing clients and a big chunk was from work I did last month.

Waiting On ~ £742.50

£742.50 for a week of shifts I did at the pub I used to work at during uni. I go back a couple times a year to help out and the money boost makes it worth it.

Month 9 Total = £1455.43
Challenge Total = £9652.68/£10,000

Wooo!!! 96.5%!! I’m soo close to hitting my 10k goal! If you factor in made income I’ve surpassed my goal but it’s not official until the money hits my account. I hoping enough payments will clear that I’ll officially pass my 10k goal before the end of the first week of month 11.

Now as I mentioned at the start of this post, my 10k side hustle challenge update only includes income that has actually hit my account. This is not necessarily a reflection of how much I made in the month as sometimes payments can take up to 180 days to pay out. If you want to see how much I made this month, read this post next.

Are you doing a money challenge in 2024? I’d love to hear all about it!
