The Actual Costs Of The Viral Spa Trip To Therme Bucharest

If your socials algorithm is anything like mine, I’d bet you’ve seen the viral spa Therme, Bucharest a couple of times!

For a month or so, I couldn’t watch reels without seeing a bunch of Therme content and the idea stuck. I looked for ways to experience it for myself and it wasn’t long before the perfect opportunity arose – a surprise birthday treat for my mum!

So off we went! But how much did the viral spa trip actually cost? Let’s break it down…

how much does a trip to therme bucharest actually cost
Let’s break down exactly how much a trip to the viral spa, Therme Bucharest, cost!

Return flights = £191.37 (£63.79pp)

We flew direct to Bucharest from Birmingham for £63.79 each. This was hand luggage only as we were only travelling for one night so didn’t need to pack much.

I’d been looking at flights for a few months before we booked and saw a few options that were much cheaper but we were limited to our dates so didn’t have much flexibility. However, I have seen way more expensive options too.

I did a quick search on Skyscanner and found flights as cheap as £41 return if you are flexible with your dates and where you fly from. The cheapest flights seem to be from the London airports.

Transport from airport = £3 (£1pp)

When I first saw this viral trip, I assumed I would follow suit and attempt to do it as a day trip. ie. take an early flight into Bucharest, head straight to the spa and then go back to the airport for a late evening flight.

However, when we were planning the trip it made more sense to spend the night and actually get to see the city. And it worked out super well!

We took the super handy train direct from the airport into Bucharest city centre and it only cost £1 each. And it’s very easy to navigate.

The airport train station is opposite the arrivals exit, you just walk out the doors and follow the signs to the train station. Once inside you can buy a ticket from one of the ticket machines and then board the next train into the city.

The train takes roughly 20 minutes and drops you off on the northern side of the city which is about a mile walk to the city centre.

Accommodation = £36.06 (£12.02pp)

Now this was the bargain of the century! We bagged a 1-bed apartment on the south side of the city for a crazy £12 each. And this place was lovely – exactly what we needed for this trip.

I found this apartment on Booking.com and jumped straight on the fab price after reading all the positive reviews. It was a little out of the city centre, about a mile or so, but could be walkable. However, we ended up getting ubers which were super affordable.

We took an uber direct from the apartment to Therme and this cost around £12 for the 45-minute journey. You could do this cheaper if you walked into the city centre and then caught a public bus to the spa. We went with the uber so we could have as much time as possible at the spa and between three people the cost was very affordable.

Food & Drink = £261.86 (£87.29pp)

We didn’t scrimp on food & drink and ate out for all our meals. We tried two lovely restaurants in Bucharest and went to a couple cocktail bars too.

As this trip was a birthday gift we weren’t scrimping so indulged in some good food.

Spa Tickets = £91.35 (£30.45pp)

We went all out on our Therme Bucharest tickets and got all-day full access passes. This gave us access to all three zones and came to only £30.45 each.

This is insanely affordable compared to typical spa prices and is one of the reasons why this place is so popular. We made sure to spend time in each of the three zones to get the full Therme experience and went on a bunch of the water rides too.

We loved the Palm area and set up our base for the day on one of the big comfy day beds.

Spa Spends = £160.08 (£53.36pp)

So whilst the spa entry tickets are super affordable, they are not all-inclusive. You have to pay extra for towels, robes, any food & drink you have plus any treatments.

The first thing we did when we checked in was rent towels and robes. We travelled carry on only as this was only a one night trip so we didn’t have space to pack our own. Although, we did squeeze in a pair of slides each so we didn’t have to pay extra for them.

We paid for breakfast and lunch whilst at Therme and drank a couple cocktails each at the various pool bars. The cocktails at Therme were a great price at only €5 each. They also served these epic ice coffees which were delicious.

We also each had a 3D body scan done. This was such a cool experience and worked out at only £11 each. We got access to the scan which outlined issues seen and came with a 6 week exercise plan to correct the issues.

All in, we spent £160.08 whilst at the spa which came to £53.36 each. Taking our spa day price to around £85 each which is still very affordable when compared to the prices of UK spas.

Transport in Bucharest = £28.61 (£9.54pp)

Outside of the super cheap train from the airport into the city, we exclusively took ubers around the city. Uber is very cheap in Bucharest and we were getting ubers into the city from our accommodation for as little as £3.

A big chunk of this was the uber we took direct to the spa that cost around £12. As a group of three, ubers were a very affordable transportation option in Bucharest.

Petrol + Parking = £74.02 (£24.67pp)

We ended up driving to the airport and parked at Birmingham International train station instead of paying for airport parking as it was miles cheaper. It worked out at a quarter of the price to park here instead – crazy!!

Parking was £12.50 per day so £25 total and then we had to fill up the car before leaving topping the rest of this category up. Nearly £75 is a big extra expense but a taxi there and back from our house to the airport would have been double this.

Total = £846.35 (£282.12pp)

Not going to lie, this total was way more than we’d planned on spending. But like I mentioned earlier this was a birthday trip so we didn’t restrict ourselves.

Our total costs came to £846.35 which worked out to around £282.12 per person for an international 1-night spa trip.

Obviously, as a birthday trip we didn’t make our mum pay so this cost was split between my sister and I. And it was worth every penny to spoil our incredible mum!

What do you think? Was this more or less than you thought it would be? Have you heard of Therme Bucharest before? Would you do this spa trip?
