5 Reasons Why Credit Cards Are My Favourite Payment Method

I am 100% team credit card for a number of different reasons. And today I’m going to share five reasons behind why I try and pay with a credit cards for everything possible.

Warning: credit cards are an amazing financial tool if used RESPONSIBLY!! Don’t charge things to a credit card that you can’t afford to pay off IN FULL!! This article is talking about how I use credit cards as a financial tool. I have never carried over a balance, missed a payment or paid a penny of interest in the four years that I’ve been taking advantage of credit cards!

Ok with that important warning out of the way, here are five reasons why I am team credit card…

More Avios = More Cheap Flights

I originally started using credit cards as I wanted to travel hack a flight to New York. Honestly, I got a little hooked and now I look at how I can optimise every single purchase for points. And the easiest way to do this is by charging everything to a card that you get points from.

My favourite card is the BA Amex card where I get 1 Avios for every £1 spent. A very easy way to see my avios add up without much effort. British Airways are currently running a boosted refer a friend reward (until 20th Feb) where new cardholders can get 12,000 bonus avios when they spend £1,000 in the first three months instead of the normal 5,000. What a money win!!

This is obviously a credit product so your credit score will be checked during the application process – PLEASE DO NOT apply for the card if you are not going to use it responsibly. But if you are in the market for this card, using a referral link is a no brainer. Might as well get 7,000 extra avios if you were already planning on getting it anyway! Here is my referral link.

Extra Interest

Using credit cards for the majority of my purchases, means I get to hold onto my cash that little bit longer and can take advantage of the high interest rates out there right now. That means more money interest as my accounts have a higher cash balance for longer. I reckon this little bonus brings me a couple extra quid in each month right now.

Reduces My Financial Anxiety

Never again will I have the stress of not having enough money when paying for something! I have access to almost £20k across my 4 credit cards and that fact brings me a tonne of comfort. I remember being at the opticians once and nearly crying when the woman at the till said “ok that’ll be £50 please”. Now, I had the £50 but just not in the right account to pay there and then. So I had to transfer from my savings whilst at the till and that’s just added financial anxiety that I don’t need in my life.

Now that I always use a credit card I know it’ll never get declined because of insufficient funds. I can pay with ease and then move the money around from the comfort of my sofa!

I Feel More In Control

Similar to the point above, putting everything I can through a credit card makes me feel more in control. I don’t get notifications that payments have bounced and can budget in my own time. Being able to actually part with the cash when I want (so long as it’s before the deadline) makes me feel much more in control.

Better Monthly Cashflow

Being able to decide (to a certain extent) when I part with the cash means I have a better monthly cashflow. This is another reason I feel more in control of my finances when I’m using credit cards compared to using debit cards or cash.

That’s it, five reasons why I choose to use a credit card for as much as I possibly can! Are you team credit cards too?
